WOOL4SCHOOL DESIGN COMPETITON TERMS AND CONDITIONS – UNITED KINGDOM

The terms for the Wool4School Competition (United Kingdom) (‘Competition’) include the Student Competition Summary, the Teacher Competition Summary and the Terms and Conditions each of which is set out in this document (‘Terms’).

STUDENT COMPETITION SUMMARY

1)

Key Dates
You must register and submit your Entry by the below dates:

a)

8 July 2019, 9am.

Competition Closes:

28 February 2020, 5pm.

20 March 2020.

Winners Publicly Announced:

Eligibility
You must meet the following criteria to be eligible to participate:

a)

Entrants must be aged between 14 – 19 and studying either:

England:

  • Junior entrant - Level 2 qualification in a GCSE or equivalent (14 – 16 years); and
  • Senior entrant - Level 3 qualification in a school sixth form or College of Further Education (16 – 19 years).

Scotland:

  • Junior entrant – CFE at levels 3 or 4 (14 – 16 years); and
  • Senior entrant – SQA National 4, National 5 or higher (16 – 19 years).

Wales:

  • Junior entrant - Level 2 qualification in a GCSE or equivalent (14 – 16 years); and
  • Senior entrant - Level 3 qualification in a school sixth form or College of Further Education (16 – 19 years).

Northern Ireland:

  • Junior entrant – Years 11 and 12 (14 – 16 years); and
  • Senior entrant – Years 13 and 14 (16 – 19 years).

UK Resident.

Entry requirements
Your Entry must include all the below requirements and be submitted via the wool4school.co.uk website. Anything in excess of those requirements will not be considered. A suggested maximum of eight files per student however multiples file uploads are permitted with each file limited to 10MB (only .pdf, .jpg, .png, .doc or .docx format). Note: in your Entry please do not include any personal information about people other than you or your parent/guardian.

a)

Illustrated design of your outfit (‘Outfit’):

  • Annotations of suitable fabric selections.
  • Minimum of one piece, with a maximum of four pieces.
  • Proposed fabric composition for the entire Outfit should be a minimum of 80 percent wool (incorporate knit or woven fabrics or a combination).
  • Do not include your name on this illustration.

b)

Creative Statement:

  • Limit 500 words.
  • Explain your design concept and provide description of the garments design.
  • Show understanding of The Woolmark logo.
  • Describe how your outfit reflects the brief.
  • Provide a justification of wool materials and innovations used in your design and those properties and benefits it best reflects.

c)

Mood Board:

  • Visually illustrate the style you have sought to reflect.

d)

Technical Sketch:

  • Detail the technical elements of your Outfit.
  • Visually demonstrate the properties of your Outfit.
  • Draw to scale.

4)

Judging Criteria
Your Entry will be judged by a panel of four judges, according to the following criteria:

a)

An innovative and creative design.

b)

A cohesive design that meets the set design brief and incorporates the use of technology for the user.

c)

Fashion Illustration shows clarity, annotations and technique.

d)

Suitability of wool materials selected for your design, including wool innovations.

e)

Demonstrate understanding of the properties and characteristics of wool. 

f)

Show understanding of the Woolmark logo.

g)

Overall visual presentation.

5)

Prizes

a)

Overall United Kingdom Senior winner:

  • Trophy – winners trophy provided
  • Cash prize of £500
  • London College of Fashion Short Course – the winner may select and attend one short course under the Fashion Design section provided by London College of Fashion within 12 months of the winner being notified.
  • Transportation to and from the winner’s home and London, and up to 7 nights’ accommodation (breakfast included) for both the winner and their guardian to allow winner to attend the London Fashion College Short Course outlined above.
  • The winner’s garment recreated and featured on The Woolmark Company’s print and online platforms.
  • 1-year subscription to British Vogue.
  • Bernette B33 sewing machine valued at £199.

b)

Region Senior finalist (excluding the overall winner. The overall winner does not receive a) and b) only a):

  • Trophy – finalist trophy provided.
  • Bernette B33 sewing machine valued at £199.
  • Cash prize of £200.
  • 1-year subscription to British Vogue.

c)

Regional Senior runner-up:

  • Certificate – region runner up certificate provided.
  • 1-year subscription to British Vogue.

d)

Overall United Kingdom Junior winner:

  • Trophy – winners trophy provided.
  • Cash prize of £300
  • Bernette B33 sewing machine valued at £199.
  • 1-year subscription to British Vogue.

Region Junior finalist (excluding the overall winner. The overall winner does not receive d) and e) only d):

  • Trophy – finalist trophy provided.
  • Cash prize of £100
  • 1-year subscription to British Vogue.

f)

Regional Junior runner-up:

  • Certificate – region runner up certificate provided.

TEACHER COMPETITION SUMMARY

Complete the Wool4School Teacher Questionnaire (‘Questionnaire’). Additional supporting documents may be added to support your submission. This may include photos, class work examples, etc.

Judging Criteria
Your entry will be judged according to the following criteria:

a)

Evidence of student success in the classroom (as requested in Questionnaire/ evidenced by student entries from your students).

b)

Evidence of quality teaching in the classroom (as requested in Questionnaire).

c)

Quality and quantity of student entries (evidenced by student entries from your students).

d)

Reflective and thoughtful teacher responses (as requested in Questionnaire).

  • Trophy – winners trophy provided
  • Cash prize £500
  • 1-year subscription to British Vogue.
  • Bernette B-37 sewing machine valued at £439.

b)

   Teacher runner-up:

  • Certificate- region runner up certificate provided.
  • 1-year subscription to British Vogue.

6)

Resource Kits

a)

A limit of 350 resource kits will be available for the first 350 teacher registrations. Once these kits have been absorbed entries will continue to be accepted, however no more kits will be issued.

 

OVERVIEW

  1. The Wool4School Student Design Competition for the year set out in the Key Dates section of the Student Competition Summary (‘Student Competition’) and the Wool4School Teacher Design Competition set out in the Key Dates section of the Teacher Competition Summary (‘Teacher Competition’) together form the Competition.
  2. The Competition is conducted by Woolmark International Pty Limited (Company no. 6378199) (‘Promoter’), who is a wholly owned subsidiary of Australian Wool Innovation Limited (‘AWI’) (ABN 12 095 165 558). The Promoter’s registered office is New Wing, Somerset House, The Strand, London WC2R 1LA, United Kingdom. Any rights of the Promoter are extended to its affiliates.
  3. Your entry to the Competition (Entry) is free of charge and must be in accordance with the Terms, including the ‘Entry requirements’ listed in the Student Competition Summary and the Teacher Competition Summary (as applicable). By entering you agree to be bound by the Terms.
  4. The Promoter may at their discretion refuse you entry to the Competition or to award you any prize if you fail to comply with these Terms, the law, or if your involvement with the Competition may cause adverse publicity to the Promoter or the Australian Wool Industry.
  5. All Entries must be received by the Promoter by no later than the time stated in the Student Competition Summary and the Teacher Competition Summary, as applicable.  All competition entries received after the times there stated are automatically disqualified.

YOUR OBLIGATIONS

  1. If you are under the age of 18 and selected as a finalist, your parent or guardian is required to complete a ‘Permission to Publish Form’, and a ‘Parental Consent Form’ in order for you to progress further in the competition.
  2. Your Entry must not include inappropriate language, gratuitous violence, sexual references or statements that, in the Promoter’s opinion, promote hatred towards an individual, race, or community.
  3. You promise and warrant that:
    1. all details provided with your Entry are true and accurate;
    2. your Entry is wholly comprised of original work, created and owned by you, not previously communicated to the public;
    3. your Entry does not contain commercial words, art, photographs or images;
    4. your Entry does not contain any identifiable product or product logo other than your school’s crest;
    5. you have all necessary rights and licenses to grant the rights set out in these Terms [and will produce evidence of any such rights or licenses at the Promoter's request];
    6. the exercise of the rights granted to the Promoter in these Terms will not infringe the rights of any third parties; and
    7. you will indemnify the Promoter against any loss of damage resulting from any breach of these warranties.

COMPETITION WINNERS AND PRIZE(S)

  1. The following clauses 10 to 15 (inclusive) apply only if you are chosen by the Competition judging panel as a winner (each a ‘Winner’). The decision of the judging panel (acting reasonably) will be final.
  2. During judging:
    1. chance plays no part in determining the Winners; and
    2. the judging panel may choose more than one Winner/runner up at their sole discretion.
  3. You will receive the relevant prize set out in the Student Competition Summary or Teacher Competition Summary (as applicable) (each a ‘Prize’).
  4. The Prize values are correct at time of printing but no responsibility is accepted for any variation in the value of any Prize. Prizes supplied by a third party are subject to availability. In the event that any prize is unavailable for whatever reason, the Promoter reserves the right to substitute any prize for a prize of equal or greater value.
  5. If you have not been in contact with the Promotor to claim your Prize within 5 of days of a notification telephone call or email, the Promoter reserves the right to offer the Prize to the next eligible entrant. The Promoter does not accept any responsibility if you are not able (or otherwise fail) to take up the Prize. In that event, the new Winner will be selected in accordance with the Student Competition or Teacher Competition Summary.
  6. Prizes are not transferable or exchangeable, and non-monetary components cannot be taken as a monetary payment.
  7. Any transport awarded shall be economy class and does not include travel insurance, the cost of transfers to and from stations, food and drink, spending money, tax or personal expenses. Any other costs incurred that are incidental to the fulfilment of the Prize are your sole responsibility.

LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

  1. To the full extent permitted by law (which does not affect your statutory rights), the Promoter, its agents or distributors will not in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate you or accept any liability for:
    1. any incorrect or inaccurate information;
    2. any technical error that may occur in the course of the administration of this Competition;
    3. any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, loss or delay of any Entry or otherwise in operation or transmission, communications line failure, [technical malfunction,] theft or destruction or unauthorised access to or alteration of your Entry or the running of the Competition; or
    4. any injury, damages, expenses, or loss whatsoever (whether direct or consequential) to you or your property as a result of any person entering into the Competition or accepting or using any Prize, including without limitation non-receipt or damage to any Prize except where it is caused by the negligence of the Promoter, its agents or distributors or that of their employees

DATA PROTECTION AND PRIVACY

  1. The Promoter collects and holds personal information about you to include you in the Competition, administer the Competition and, where appropriate, award prizes. If the personal information requested is not provided, you are ineligible to participate.
  2. You agree that the Promoter may, in the event you become a Finalist or Winner, publish or cause to be published your name, photograph or likeness and locality in any media globally, without compensation.
  3. You must comply with all applicable Privacy Laws in the collection, protection, use, maintenance, handling and disclosure of Personal Information regarding this Competition.
  4. You accept personal information you provide to the Promoter in accordance with these Terms will be held and used according to the Promoter’s Privacy Policy (http://www.wool4school.co.uk/privacy) and may be transferred to the Promoter's computer systems in Australia.

GENERAL

  1. This Competition in run in United Kingdom only.
  2. You may only submit one Entry.
  3. The Promoter reserves the right to amend these Terms at its sole discretion.
  4. You grant the Promoter and its affiliated companies a worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, sub-licensable, royalty free license to use the intellectual property rights in your Entry (and any component of it) for any promotional and marketing purposes without notice and without any fee being paid, including (without limitation) to use, display, publish, transmit, copy, edit, alter, adapt, store, re-format and sub-licence the Entry.
  5. You acknowledge the Promoter and its affiliated companies may exercise the global, non-exclusive right to communicate your Entry in whole or in part to the public on any media platform.
  6. You acknowledge the Promoter and its affiliated companies may allow users to view, reproduce, download and otherwise deal in the copyright works attached to and embodied in your Entry.
  7. Upon entry you waive your Moral Rights (described below) and any other similar rights in the Entry and consent to any act or omission that would otherwise infringe your moral or similar rights. In these Terms, Moral Rights includes:
    1. a right of attribution of authorship;
    2. a right not to have authorship falsely attributed;
    3. a right of integrity of authorship; and
    4. any right of a similar nature which is conferred by statute and which exists or comes to exist anywhere in the world.
  8. If for any reason the conduct or operation of the Competition is not capable of proceeding as planned, is interfered with, or disrupted in any way. The Promoter reserves the right to cancel, terminate, suspend, modify or recommence the Competition.
  9. All decisions made by the Promoter regarding the Competition are final and the Promoter will not enter into any correspondence with you.
  10. If any provision of these Terms is held to be illegal, invalid, void or otherwise unenforceable, it will be severed from the remaining provisions, which will continue in full force and effect.
  11. The Competition is not open to:
    1. any employee, officer, servant[, agent, supplier] or contractor of the Promoter or AWI, or their related bodies corporate or their agencies involved with the Competition; or
    2. any natural or adopted child, or sibling of a person referred to in paragraph 31.1.
  12. These Terms shall be governed by the laws of England, and you submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
